You'll often hear pilots referring to the Continental® O-470 in reverent tones as "old reliable." Powering the majority of Cessna® 180 and fixed-gear 182 aircraft from 1953 through 1986, this workhorse of an engine embodies simplicity, efficiency and ruggedness. Its track record speaks louder than words - a true brawny powerplant. In fact, some versions make full power at a smooth, quiet 2400 rpm.
The Continental IO-470-L is a high-output, fuel-injected 6-cylinder engine producing 260 horsepower at 2625 RPM. Most commonly installed in the Beechcraft Baron B55 as either the left or right engine, the IO-470-L is also used in the military Army T-42 training aircraft. Known for its power, responsiveness, and reliability, this engine is widely respected among twin-engine pilots and maintainers.
Air Power offers factory new and rebuilt IO-470-L engines configured specifically for your aircraft's electrical system, magnetos, and installation position.
Aircraft built in 1970 and newer commonly use Prestolite series alternators. Earlier aircraft may use generator-based systems or non-standard alternators. Be sure to confirm your aircraft year during the quoting process to ensure correct alternator compatibility.
Some IO-470-L configurations may require a formal Request for Quote (RFQ) with Continental due to their low production frequency. If pricing is not published, Air Power will handle the RFQ for you.
